Lumecca Before Care

 It is recommended that you seek medical attention from your family physician if you have any concerns about specific skin lesions or changes prior to beginning Lumecca sessions. 

Tanning

Avoid any type of tanning for 3-4 weeks prior to treatment, this includes the sun, tanning bed, and selfless tanner.  

Sun

Make sure you are using at least an SPF of 30 while out in the sun.

Clean Skin

Arrive with clean skin. There should be no lotion, make-up, perfume or deodorant, in the area to be treated. 

Avoid Topical Irritants

Avoid topical irritants for 5 days prior to treatment.  This includes retinols, products containing tretinoin, salicylic acid, glycolics, and exfoliants. 


Accutane should be discontinued for at least 6 months prior to starting laser. 

Avoid Anticoagulants

Avoid anticoagulants for 7-10 days prior to treatment, if medically permitted.

Avoid Photosensitizing Medications

Photosensitizing medications including doxycycline and minocycline should be discontinued 3 days prior to treatment.

Your diet can affect your sensitivity. Avoiding stimulants, such as caffeine, chocolate and sugar prior to your appointment can help.

If you are sensitive or treating a sensitive area, you can take an Ibuprofen or Tylenol 30-45 minutes prior to your appointment to minimize discomfort.

Menstruating clients

Menstruating clients may find they are more sensitive during or right after their menstrual cycle, and may want to avoid making an appointment at this time.
