Electrolysis After Care

Everyone's skin reacts differently to electrolysis. You can expect your skin to be tender, red and swollen. It may last anywhere from a few hours to a couple days. There is the possibility that healing may take longer depending on different variables, such as skin sensitivity, hydration, and aftercare.

Avoid Touching

Avoid touching the treated areas.  Bacteria is everywhere and on everything. Touching your skin with dirty hands can cause you to break out, and even lead to infection.

Avoid Picking

Light scabbing can be a natural part of the healing process. If scabs appear, allow them to fall off naturally. Picking them can cause scarring.

Avoid Scratching

It is normal for your skin to feel itchy for a few days following your hair removal treatment. This is inflammation and all part of the healing process.

Avoid Shaving

Avoid shaving the area for 24-48 hours after your electrolysis treatment. This can cause microscopic cuts and scrapes allowing bacteria to enter the follicles causing infection.  Let the skin heal prior to shaving.

Avoid Sun

Avoid sun exposure for 24 hours after your hair removal treatment. If you must be out in the sun, wear a sunblock of at least SPF30.

Avoid Astringents

Avoid any harsh products until the skin is fully healed. This includes perfumes, acne medications, astringents or anything with an alcohol base.

Avoid Working Out

Avoid exercising after your electrolysis appointment. Excessive sweating can cause bacteria to enter open follicles causing a minor infection, resulting in a breakout.

Avoid Make Up

If possible, avoid make up for at least 12 hours after your appointment.

Avoid Hot Tubs, Saunas and Pools

Avoid hot tubs, saunas and pools for 48 hours after your electrolysis treatment.  Your pores are open and can easily become infected.

Apply the mixture with a clean wash cloth for 10 minutes at a time. This can be repeated until symptoms subside. For large areas you can have a bath with ½ cup of Epsom Salt.

Topical Products

In studio aftercare products can be purchased and are highly recommended to help alleviate any redness and irritation. Witch Hazel and Aloe are recommended for over the counter. Applying Witch Hazel to the treated area will help cleanse the skin. Applying Aloe to the treated area will help sooth the skin.
